Sunday, 14 June 2009 21:37

On 27 June, Jagoree in collaboration with ULAB Business Club organized a workshop for young students to deliberate on the proposed National Budget 2009-10. Titled "Budget Analysis Workshop 2009-10", this was a continuation from last year's successful symposium that Jagoree organized in Dhaka University.

Seven teams from 3 renowned public and private universities and a prominent international youth organization presented their analyses on various aspects of the proposed budget. The event was also marked by the presence of four distinguished panelists - Mr. Nazim Manzoor (CEO, Apex Footware), Mr. Zonayed Saki (politician, Gonoshonghoti Andolon), Mr. Shihab Ansari Azhar (Communications Officer, IFC, World Bank), and Mr. Saiful Islam Tapan (politician, Bangladesh Socialist Party).

Held in ULAB Auditorium in Dhanmondi, the workshop started with a brief introduction to the key features of the budget by Moshahida Sultana, founder member of Jagoree and lecturer at Dhaka University. The participants then separated in their groups for analyzing and discussing their designated topics with the help of mentors, before presenting their analyses and recommendations on the topic and responding to questions and comments from panelists and other participants. The workshop concluded with a thoughtful set of comments and stimulating discussions among the panelists. Rushad Faridi, member of Jagoree and Assistant Professor of Economics Department at Dhaka University, moderated the panel discussion.
